At Ciudad Nueva, we’ve been working hard to keep our youth programs running to the best of our ability, despite the ongoing impact of COVID-19. With many of our events and in-person activities canceled to support physical distancing, we’re working to find fresh ways to connect with students in our community wherever possible.
In fact, our mission is more important than ever in this season, and we couldn’t continue our work without our incredible staff, volunteers, and supporters. As students navigate what it means to do school from home, our mentors and volunteers have strived to support them online, using Zoom, FaceTime, and social media.
Many students are finding ways to navigate this experience alongside their families, but others are struggling. “The kids are struggling through virtual school all day and they often don’t have the energy or attention span to watch long YouTube videos and think critically about our curriculum. Some students have reliable access to phones, computers, and Wi-Fi, and some of them just don’t,” shared Jen Foliaco, Launch Pad assistant at Ciudad Nueva.
That’s why we need your help. Your support helps keep our organization going so we can continue to serve these students to the best of our ability. To that end, here are some ways you can continue to support Ciudad Nueva as we continue to meet the needs of our community’s youth in this season:
- Pray for our students as they adapt to new methods of learning.
- Pray for our team and volunteers as they come alongside to support and encourage students.
- Donate food staples such as eggs, dried beans, rice, and canned goods to support families who are struggling to make ends meet.
- Make a financial donation to help offset the postponement and cancellation of many of our spring fundraisers.
