There is excellent research that shows investing in youth leadership development makes a difference in the lives of youth and in their communities. But it also just makes sense. If kids believe that they can achieve great things, and we give them skills they need for success, it will be a win-win for them and for their community. Unfortunately I have a tendency to think that I'm more athletically adventurous than what I am actually physically capable of. Because of this I tend to bite off more “adventure” then I can actually chew. I may be the first to sign up for a high rapid rafting trip, but I'm probably going to be the first one to fall out of the raft.
