What We Do

Strengthening the community is one of the four core strategies through which we seek to fulfill our mission and vision at Ciudad Nueva. Our goal is to facilitate opportunities that allow all ages of community members from our neighborhood to come together at events, programs, and collaborate with other local non-profits to enhance our outreach efforts. Community Advisory Board

Facilitated by our Community Connectors and led by our Rio Grande neighbors, our Community Advisory Board meets once a month to discuss the needs, plans, and even dreams for what they would like to see in their neighborhood. This is made up of neighborhood parents, seniors, teens–people who love our neighborhood! The Community Advisory Board enables community members to serve each other by sharing their assets and working together to advocate for the health and wellness of our community.

Buen Vivir Mental Health and Wellness Initiative

Our Buen Vivir coordinator works in collaboration with youth program staff and Community Connectors to assess micro and macro mental health needs with the goal of connecting neighbors to resources, including education, training, and direct care. Through Buen Vivir, we are able to walk alongside our neighbors together in the pursuit of mental wellness in various ways, including reflective art classes, community coaching, personal life skills, and more! 

Community Dinners 

Community Dinners are typically held four times a year for the students, families, and adults in the Rio Grande neighborhood where we serve. Community Dinners are a time where we gather across all programs to share a meal together, discuss upcoming events, and reflect on relationships in the neighborhood, as adults prepare the food and students and families work together to serve the food and clean up afterward.

Downtown Church Connection 

Leaders from local churches and organizations in El Paso, TX comprise Downtown Church Connection to meet monthly to talk about the neighborhood: our organizations, our events, and our struggles and prayer requests. We want to be good stewards of our resources and believe we can serve the community better by working together to avoid duplicating our efforts. Many of the churches support Ciudad Nueva with donations of items and money, and their members volunteer in our programs and events.
