At the heart of Ciudad Nueva is our passion to be a place where the community serves the community. One place where this passion is lived out is through our Food Co-Op, which is led by our own Alma Martinez. Alma radiates warmth and compassion and has steered our program through a pandemic, demonstrating the steadfast care of a servant’s heart. Alma came to Ciudad Nueva three years ago. Ciudad Nueva’s Spring Break Art Camp Brings Healing and Laughter
At Ciudad Nueva, we believe in the value of human connection to foster an environment of empowerment for our community. Over 2 days of spring break, we held an art camp that brought 25 students together across all grades of our programming to create, connect, reflect, and unwind. From 1-5 pm each day, our staff and volunteers joined elementary, middle school, and high school students in art workshops and reflection sessions. Ciudad Nueva’s Upward Soccer League Expands to Include Middle School Teams This Fall
When Ciudad Nueva brought a youth soccer league to the Rio Grande neighborhood last fall, only one thing was missing: a middle school division. Ciudad Nueva decided to limit the league to kindergarten through fifth grade during its inaugural year, but league director Bruce Meyer plans to expand the league to include teams for middle schoolers this fall.
